Message from the Dean:

Dean Sanjay Varshney Dear Alumni and Friends,

Execution is vital to success – and I am pleased to report that the College of Business has successfully executed and delivered on several key initiatives.  With the College reorganization complete and two of the three Associate Deans formally appointed through searches, we begin a new chapter with renewed enthusiasm and aspirations.

Our faculty continuously strives for excellence and has embraced an even higher standard for publication and intellectual scholarship.  They also developed and implemented a new strategic plan for the next five years.  Our focus next shifts to pivotal elements in our recruitment and retention plan for students.

The CBA received close to $673,926 in corporate and individual giving to support ongoing initiatives in the CBA. For the second consecutive year, giving has more than doubled. The CBA Annual Awards Banquet had record attendance and total revenue reached $54,500 with an additional $10,000 worth of advertising donated by the media event partners.  Table sponsors increased from 23 tables in 2004 to 50 in 2006. The CBA provided $69,312 in scholarships to students, an increase of $16,000.

The Executive MBA has been a resounding success story making headlines and news in the greater Sacramento region.  Along with other self-support programs, the EMBA has helped create a new revenue stream of $3 million.  We are now bringing in the fourth cohort in less than two years.  The program has drawn a wide range of professionals, including physicians.

The College’s advertising and marketing plans are making a huge impact.  Business leaders have actively participated in College plans and activities.  Recently, we were privileged to have Warren Buffett from Berkshire Hathaway and Carl Bass from Autodesk spend time with us.

Our alumni bring back success stories every day – Caroline Drakeley just took her firm national, and Kraig Clark and Steve Schroeder have taken CoreLogic to the list of the fastest growing companies in Sacramento.

The last year has been spectacular in all respects.  We look forward to making the next even better.

Warm Regards,

Sanjay Varshney
