Dr. Martha Wilson

Martha Wilson

Dr. Martha (Marty) Wilson is an assistant professor in the College of Business Administration at California State University Sacramento where she teaches courses in operations management, supply chain management, quality management, statistics and quantitative methods.  Her teaching interests also include process flow and analysis, workforce scheduling, and optimization. 

 

Dr. Wilson received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in industrial engineering with an emphasis on system dynamics.  She obtained her M.S. in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines and a B.S. in industrial and systems engineering from The Ohio State University. 

 

Marty is currently engaged in projects related to supply chain risk, focusing on transportation and distribution issues. She has presented her work to local government agencies and works with local industries on supply chain issues. She is also interested in other aspects of supply chain management including enterprise resource planning, supplier selection and verification, and system-wide response to unexpected events.

 

Her articles have appeared in Transportation Research: Logistics and Transportation Review and the California Journal of Operations Management.  She has also contributed to professional journal articles on supply chain flexibility, supply chain risk and disruption management. 

 

Prior to coming to Sacramento, Dr. Wilson was a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth where she taught simulation, operations management, project management and senior design in the undergraduate program, and operations modeling and analysis and project management in the engineering management program.  She has also taught management science, operations management and statistics courses in undergraduate and graduate business programs at Seattle University and the University of Washington. 

 

In addition to her academic experience, Marty worked in the defense industry where she was involved in implementing production planning systems (MRP) and improving work flow and resource allocation.  She has also consulted with the Washington State Department of Transportation on decision processes, worked with the Minnesota Department of Transportation on snowplow routing and scheduling, and served as an expert witness in a case related to third party logistics.

 

Dr. Wilson is a member of the SACOG Goods Movement Advisory Board, the System Dynamics Society, INFORMS, and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
